Work Health and Safety Induction
GUIDELINE NUMBER 1: FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF YOUR TEAM COACH OR PROCESSING LEADER
Their job is to provide guidance on the tasks assigned and ensure that you are safe
• The coach will let you know everything you need to process safely and to have a good time
• Please listen out for their instructions when they ask you to do something
• Follow the direction and instructions of your Team Coach at all times
GUIDELINE NUMBER 2: SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY
It is important that everyone plays a part in maintaining a safe environment. If you see a hazard in the warehouse, please bring this to the attention of your Team Coach.
For example:
• Bring to the Team Coach’s attention any items that may present a trip hazard – ie. carpet that has lifted, cords, uneven ground, etc.
• You may notice that some equipment has become damaged, in need of repair and may be unsafe – please bring this to the attention of your Team Coach.
Whilst every step is taken to ensure a safe working area, we cannot be complacent. It’s our collective responsibility to be proactive.
GUIDELINE NUMBER 3: TAKE CARE AROUND MOVING EQUIPMENT
We use Load Shifting Equipment to help us move gifts around the warehouse, including pallet jacks and in some cases forklifts. We have developed a Floor Traffic Management Plan that will identify safe places to work and walk.
• Please ensure that you keep away from any moving equipment and remain in your designated areas.
• If you do hear or see powered Load Shifting Equipment, please maintain a safe distance of at least 3 metres.
If you are anywhere near a moving forklift or vehicle unloading, please make eye contact with the driver so that he or she knows you are there and if you’re at a safe distance you can then continue with your processing in the warehouse.
GUIDELINE NUMBER 4: MAINTAIN A CLEAN AND EFFICIENT WORKSPACE
If you see some rubbish lying around or some things out of place, please put them away or put them in the bin. Having a clean workspace helps maintain a safe workspace. If you are using any tools, tape dispensers or containers, please return them to their designated areas when you have finished with them.
Remember, rubbish can be a trip hazard, so please ensure we keep the work area clean and tidy.
GUIDELINE NUMBER 5: FOLLOW CORRECT MANUAL HANDLING TECHNIQUES WHEN LIFTING ITEMS
We want you to remain injury free in the warehouse but there are some heavy items to lift in the warehouse such as outer cartons that can weigh in excess of 20kg.
Please ask for assistance when lifting heavy items. Do not pick up heavy weights on your own. If you are lifting a heavy object, we encourage you to talk to your Team Coach for guidelines and instructions on how to do a safe lift.
GUIDELINE NUMBER 6: TAKE REGULAR BREAKS
Some of your work will involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and doing repetitive work. If you need to, please take a break and do lots of stretches. Remember to stay hydrated.
